Start a photography business The Smart Way: Key # 3 – Marketing Photography
If you are starting a photography business, or if you already have one, and want to make it more profitable, marketing photography is one time the most important keys.
I often say that the photography market is the "engine" of your photography business, because it is absolutely. If you mess up the marketing of your photo company is going nowhere.
Here are 4 little known marketing secrets photograph to help you build your business success. They certainly have mine:
Photo Marketing Secret # 1: Never rely on word of mouth – it is not enough. It is certainly true that one of the best forms of advertising is to have somebody tell a friend about you and how "great" you are. But here's the problem: There is not enough of that going to make you money serious. So do not depend on this to support your activities.
Photo Marketing Secret # 2: Not too big market – choose a target market to go after that of a passion. Most photographers really screw this up – by not doing it at all. When it comes to marketing photography, professional photographers are known for thinking that "everyone is their target market. "If they have a pulse, they are a perspective," they think. It a huge marketing mistake.
You see, professional photographers most of us do not have a huge marketing budget. It is therefore very important to choose carefully who is it that you want to work with, and then concentrate on getting to them and them alone.
For example: My Market target is as follows: "Warm Fuzzy Women who appreciate what I do." By "Warm Fuzzy" I mean those type of people who are right brain dominant which are highly emotional, romantic, sensitive and happy photography and what it can mean for them.
Photo Marketing Secret # 3: Define a specific budget – almost no photographer did that, and it is a big mistake. You must determine how much money you're willing to invest to "buy" customers this year. That's what you do – you're "buying" them. So how do you pay? Is different for every photography business, depending on your situation is critical. But a good starting point is to take between 5% and 7% of your projected gross sales for the next 12 months. At least that's what you started with budgeting.
Photo Marketing Secret # 4: Exhibition of photos in your community – and to explain the types of photography you want to do. And you do not need to pay money for these exposures. I wrote Other articles and write more on this – but here, let me tell you that you can get free exposure for your photos anywhere in your city – in malls, cinemas, restaurants, hair salons, office buildings and many other places.
How? By showing the location how they will benefit from display your photos in their establishment. And how will they benefit? Because you will return to the studio and call people whose pictures you just put in place in their establishment, and these people tell all their friends (because it's a big exciting thing to them!) So people across the city will be talking about this institution – and it does not cost a penny for them!
These four little known secrets are the spine back to my marketing photography, and they work well for you too.
